Hayward, CA: Seven hopefuls aim at two city council seats in June 3, 2014 elections

commission member Julie McKillop, businessman Ralph Farias Jr., performing arts technician Phillip Gallegos, former AC Transit board member Rocky Fernandez, and Planning Commissioner Sarah Lamnin.

Fernandez and Lamnin filed their candidacy papers minutes before the deadline which had been extended after incumbent council member Mark Salinas decided to run for mayor.

Peixoto is running for a second term – he was a member of the planning commission when he was first elected in 2010. Lochè is said to have the edge among the other six candidates due to several union endorsements, the nod of incumbent mayor Michael Sweeney, and an early campaign start. Fernandez, Lamnin, and McKillop (a CPA who owns the Neumanali restaurant next to the Hayward city hall) are said to be in the mix, with Farias and Gallegos having hardly a chance.
