San Leandro Mayor Cassidy: don't quit now - you can do your job as mayor and still run for re-election!

renaissance, “buzzing with a fresh technology focus . . . the state-of-the-art San Leandro Kaiser hospital will open . . . the City Council unanimously approved construction of a commercial district for tech firms and other companies at the forefront of today's innovation economy . . three Class A office buildings will be built . . . creating nearly 2,000 quality jobs.” He concluded that much more can be accomplished this year but implied that he would have to work to do so and not spend time campaigning for re-election.

This announcement took Cassidy’s constituents and supporters by surprise, considering that he launched his re-election campaign just recently in early March.

We find something wrong with Cassidy’s reasons for not seeking re-election. If he wants to properly serve the citizens of his city, why couldn’t he just go ahead and do that – perform his job as mayor while seeking re-election without having to actively campaign? Come on, Mayor Cassidy – run!
